The herring spawn is one of the most spectacular natural events annually on the west coast of Vancouver Island. It does coincide with the gray whale migration. Each year, millions of herring migrate from the open ocean to coastal areas, where they spawn in huge numbers. This spawning event usually colours the water white. It draws an enormous number of predators and scavengers, including grey whales, humpback whales, sea lions, seals, bears, wolves and sea birds, that take advantage of the feeding frenzy to come inshore and forage, often for weeks at a time.
This trip is a partnership between SKILS and Hello Nature. The main goal of the trips is to enjoy stunning wildlife, gourmet food and a unique wilderness experience on a beautiful island where we have exclusive rights to use.
